Character.AI's company status
On October 12, 2026, Character.AI announced that it had started a voluntary Chapter 11 bankruptcy process to facilitate a court-supervised sale of the company. It said it hopes the sale will let the platform keep operating, and that the platform will be wound down if no such bid is available. Character.AI says users can export their data or delete their account in its app or on its website. [7]
